New Card Expiration Guidelines

Have you used your Princeton library card in the last three years?  Do you use it to check things out in person at the library?  If the answer is no to either of these questions, you should know about a new procedure in effect at the Princeton Public Library.

Starting immediately, patrons who owe less than $10 in fines and have not used their library card in person at the front desk in the last three years will have their library card purged from the system and will no longer be able to use it. If you only download eBooks and audiobooks online and do not check out books at the library, your card will also be in danger of being cancelled after three years, since the purge process is now being done automatically, and the online borrowing apps do not communicate your usage to our Sierra database system. This process will take place once a year, in the spring.

If you want to receive an email notice in advance of your card’s expiration date, please come in to the library or log into your account online to make sure we have your current email on file. We email monthly reminders to persons whose cards are due to expire. You can also make sure your card will not be expunged from the system by using it at the front desk to check out items.

If your card does get automatically removed from the system, you can reinstate your eligibility by bringing in a photo ID and asking for a new card which will be issued at no charge.
