We are Collecting Plastic for Recycling

Save your plastic bags and food wrap. The Princeton Public Library is collecting them for recycling. The library is participating in a program offered by Trex. To participate in the Trex Challenge, the library will collect at least 500 pounds of plastic bags in six months, from April 1 – September 30, to receive a free Trex bench. Trex benches are outdoor furniture made from recycled plastic.

Plastic eligible to be collected include:

  • Grocery bags
  • Bread bags
  • Case overwrap
  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Newspaper sleeves
  • Ice bags
  • Wood pellet bags
  • Ziplock and other reclosable bags
  • Produce bags
  • Bubble wrap
  • Salt bags
  • Cereal bags

All plastic must be clean, dry and free of food residue. A collection box for the plastic has been set up in the entryway of the library. Totals are reported on a monthly basis and dropped off at Hy-Vee in Peru. The community can help the environment and the library by contributing unwanted plastic.
