Start the new year off right by avoiding fake news. Princeton Public Library offers a number of databases with reliable sources. Library card holders can access any of our many databases free by entering their library card number. Many of the databases are accessible from their own home computers and tablets.
All these databases are listed under the “Research” tab above, but to highlight just a few:
NewsBank provides a link to special reports on the most current trending topics nationally and internationally. Patrons can also access Bureau County Republican articles online through NewsBank and its easy to use search engine.
Gale General One File database is a broad collection of news articles, magazines, books, academic journals, images and video that support general interest research and exploration. This database is great for school research projects or when someone is looking for additional and more reliable information than they can get from Wikipedia.
Of the many topics covered are Career, Education, Health and Personal Finance. Curious about the Salem Witch Trials? Patrons can look for the event under the History tab and find out why politicians today are still using the phrase “witch hunt.” This database offers full-text articles, interviews and short stories.
Another valuable resource the library has is lynda.com. This is a great source for people who are interested in advancing or changing their professional outlook. The database offers a series of educational courses on everything from computer coding to business. This database is great for people who want to increase their value in the current position or learn new skills to qualify for a new position. Lynda.com users can keep up with the most current software or learn an entirely new ability from scratch.
All courses are taught by easy to understand professionals and list the length of the video and suggested skill level. Courses are clearly designated as appropriate for all, beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. These courses are a great addition to a resume, and available to Princeton Public Library cardholders.
