Beginning 11/1/20 the Princeton Public Library will start letting patrons into the building to select their own materials. The community has expressed their desire to browse the collection and the board has agreed to meet their requests. The board sees the library as an essential part of maintaining the well-being of the library’s patrons during this pandemic.

Patrons will be able to come in between the hours of 12:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday and 12:00 through 2:00 on Saturday. This will allow the staff to complete tasks of filling hold orders and disinfecting the area prior to and after patrons have had access. The number of patrons allowed in the library will be limited to 10 for no more than 15 minutes. Everyone will be required to practice social distancing and wear face masks. At this stage we are not allowing users under the age of 12 beyond the cafe.

The library will be following standard protocol among public libraries. Hand sanitizer will be readily available and required by anyone perusing the collection. All seating will be off-limits to encourage browsers to focus on and make their selections quickly. The library also asks that patrons place any materials they touch in a bin rather than replace them on the shelves. This allows the staff to clean the materials before making it available for other patrons.

Seven of our public computers will be available for 45 minute sessions, one of which will be dedicated to those in need of completing government documents such as taxes, census, employment, social, financial or health related forms. In order to use this more private PC, let the library staff know when placing the reservation. We also have laptop computers that can be checked out for in-house use. In addition, the library will continue to offer free wi-fi throughout the building and parking area.

The Princeton Public Library will continue fulfilling book and DVD orders via lobby pickup. Patrons will be able to place their orders by phone (815) 875-1331, e-mail (help@princetonpl.org), or by signing into their accounts remotely through the Princeton Public Library Website (www.princetonpl.org).

The Princeton Public Library Board of Trustees continues to prioritize the safety of the staff and the community above all other concerns. They would also like to extend their appreciation to the community for their patience and understanding during this difficult time and will continue to waive all fines through December.
